Chakra Tuning: A Jivamukti Yoga Workshop

Chakra means wheel and these energy centres are said to spin; pulsating prana or energy through the subtle body. When these chakras are open, like after a great yoga practice, we feel radiant, spacious and free. These chakras also become blocked, though, forming nasty knots which restrict, limit and distract us. In this Jivamukti yoga workshop we will focus on opening the seven chakras though postures, breath, sound and meditation. We will open our hips before practicing twisting, backbending and inversions. This is a vinyasa practice which will be dynamic. It is appropriate for all levels, except complete beginners. Basic to advanced variations will be given.

Bristol is a certified Jivamukti and prenatal yoga instructor with over seven years of experience teaching. She draws strongly on the tenets of Jivamukti as well as her studies of the Anusara, Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga methods. Bristol's practice and teaching is informed by the light and grace of her teachers, Sharon Gannon and David Life. Bristol has most recently been living in London, teaching yoga and working in art history.

In this class, we will look at some of the more advanced poses you might find in an All Levels Class or a Power Yoga Flow that were not covered in Intro 1. Postures will include Half Moon, Sugar Cane, Traditional and Tripod Headstand, Wheel, and Handstands. This class is not intended to master these poses-although you might find you are ready to take them on! It is intended to get you acquainted with these poses so you can begin to deepen your asana practice and feel comfortable going to the other classes we offer. All levels welcome! $96 for 8 sessions! Spring Detox Workshop

The start of spring symbolizes a time of renewal and rebirth; a time to shed away the layers of a long winter and invite purification and regeneration. This 2-hour workshop is designed to help you release the physical and emotional toxins, tensions, and stagnant energies that may have built up during the winter months, or even over the years. Leigh and Joanna will guide you through a Vinyasa flow practice with a focus on cleansing the body from the inside out; incorporating unique sequencing designed to stimulate and purify the internal organs, increase respiration and circulation, improve digestion, and effectively detoxify and renew the body. We'll flow, work deep twists, have fun with inversions and back bends and finish with a deep, restorative sequence and a guided meditation. You will leave the workshop inviting in the spring season with a lightened heart and spirit.

Breath, bandhas and drishti are the three keys that make us truly yogis. Explore control of breath and mind through pranayama. Develop application of mula, uddyana and jalandahara bandhas, or energy valves, within your body, and move from the external to the internal self as you build understanding of the drishti, or gaze. Build on these techniques and ignite your fire. Use the tools of the yogi during your asana practice to find that as you flow through postures you build focus, strength, vitality and compassion. The postures open to you, becoming fuller, softer, and balanced. Move beyond the asana to pratyahara (sense withdrawal) dharana, (concentration) dyana, (meditation) and samadhi (peace) .
